Min pictures the portrait of the woman facing her retriever in various shades of cadmium yellow. The downcast gaze of the human complements the upturned snout of the animal as the two figures engage in active dialogue of loyalty and respect. The background and sharp crochet pattern make for interesting contrast while maintaining unity.

The figure’s gaze looks out of the canvas and meets our own. The woman donning the “ushanka” and “parka” sits in a frontal view position. The sfumato or “smoky” style in the distance is created by blurring outlines to portray atmospheric perspective.
